What’s one of the first things you do when you’re planning a weekend away? For us, we start thinking about the food. We browse through Instagram, and online reviews about restaurants in the area, searching for dishes that we want to try while we’re there.
Browsing through the restaurants in Canmore, Wild Orchid Bistro always tops the list of recommendations. Conveniently located in Silver Creek Lodge, where we were spending the weekend, we had the opportunity to stop to experience the menu.
It’s this great fusion of the classic dishes you know, and love, with a surprising twist. We started with an order of Edamame and tempura shrimp, with a delicious aioli that we found ourselves using as a dip for the Edamame.
Next up, we tried the sushi section of the menu, with the spicy tuna roll, dynamite roll and the crunchy salmon roll. The tempura bits inside were a nice surprise, and we loved the perfect batter of the tempura shrimp, the perfect combination of light and crisp, delicious and crunchy. Knowing there were a handful of courses coming up, we saved a few pieces to bring with us, later having them with drinks at the end of the night.
For the tapas course, the popular ginger chicken and seared scallops arrived at our table, again with the perfect batter of the ginger chicken. The sauce was vibrant, and full of flavour – you can see why it’s a favourite, we’ll be ordering it again.
Finishing up the dinner portion, we shared the Fragrant Green Curry dish, with shrimp. The perfect size for sharing, it was filled with perfectly cooked vegetables, shrimp and delicious broth for pouring over the brown rice that came with the dish.
For dessert, we shared the coconut creme brulee. Delicious is an understatement, it was the best creme brulee that I’ve ever tasted –
When you reserve, ask for a table beside the window or on the patio (that’s undergoing some exciting planning for the future). You can make a reservation for Wild Orchid Bistro at 403.679.2029.
