The first thing you’ll notice when you walk into Glass Monkey is the romantic atmosphere. It’s a quiet experience, giving you the chance to really connect with the person you’re eating with.
Start off with the pulled pork tacos. They were on special when we went. They’re crunchy yet soft, and the slaw was just right, not overpowering. Next time we go in for a quiet date night, the broccoli tops my list of things to try, with the pecorino cheese and walnut vinaigrette.
A seasonal feature, the lamb curry, was recommended to us. Made daily, in-house, it was a delicious winter warm-up meal. The side of Na’an bread complimented it perfectly, and was a great way to get every last bit of the flavorful sauce. At medium hot, it had the perfect temperature level to add a bit of heat to the meal.
The second dish we tried was a house-made sausage with mashed potatoes, caramelized onions and pepper relish. The flavours were well balanced, garlicky – and it was just wonderful.
The warm chocolate cake we ended the meal with paired remarkably well with the dessert wine offered – we both enjoyed it so much that we made a point to ask so we could buy it to experience it at home. In addition to the delicious wine options available, there are also a variety of teas, if you want to finish off the meal that way.
Glass Monkey ticked all of the boxes: great atmosphere, fantastic service, and delicious food. We liked the fact that suggestions were readily available from servers who clearly know what they’re talking about, from food suggestions to wine pairings.
Tip: Visit Glass Monkey on Mondays for half off wine bottles under $40, and $20 off bottles of wine over $40.
