We’re right in the midst of K-days and the weather has turned around, making it the perfect place to spend a hot summer night with the person you care about. Wondering what to see and do while you’re there? What to eat? We’re sharing some of the must-do things for Edmontonians hitting up K-days this summer.
What to do on Date Night at K-Days
Take in a Concert (or two)
Check out the free entertainment for K-days, nightly, using the schedule on the website. With a diverse entertainment line-up, you’re bound to find something that you like. While you’re there, you can pop into the Budweiser Beer Gardens for a refreshing drink from the full bar service.
Eat Birthday Cake Shaved Ice
There’s a reason that the Birthday Cake shaved ice won the new food award from the Hula Hut, and that reason is because it’s one of the most delicious treats you’re going to have this summer, over ice. Eat fast, as it’s going to melt quick at those hot days at the fair. The small size ($6) is perfect for sharing, and you’re going to love the sprinkles on top, just like a real birthday cake.
Don’t Skip the Ribs
Starting at noon daily, you’ll find RE/MAX Ribfest on the grounds. It’s the first place you should stop for lunch. With three ‘Ribbers’ this year: Prairie Smoke and Spice, Boss Hogs BBQ and Gator BBQ, it’s worth a trip. Our best tip for date night? Get a couple of orders for lunch or dinner (lunch, if you’re trying to avoid the crowds) and order from two, and share between yourselves.
Check out the Lumberjack show, daily at 2:30, 5:30 and 7:30. The show features four professional lumberjack athletes who are all current or former Canadian champions in the various lumberjack sport events. Axe throwing, tree climbing and all-things Lumberjack are going to be featured in this must-see show.
Stay for the Fireworks
Stay late for the Fireworks – even if you’ve got to get up early the next morning. It’s the chance to see them up and close, without the crowded festival vibe that usually happens through the summer months. Look up, look way up, every night at 11 pm.
See it From the Top
Grab a book of tickets (or a ride all day pass if you want to experience everything, all day long) and head up on the Ferris Wheel to get a new vantage point. It’s one of the most romantic places to see the entirety of Northlands, and it’s the perfect time for that insta-worthy photo, too because if the moment wasn’t captured, did it really happen? All joking aside, the view is spectacular at sunset.
You can’t go wrong with a cup of lemonade, and the best lemonade comes from our favourite spot Lemon Heaven. With new flavour syrups to try this year, you can mix and match to your heart’s content. We’re want to make sure you’re extra hydrated, so grab the large.
TechLife returns this year, and it’s the perfect place to cool off! Located in the Expo Centre, the exhibition features video & tabletop gaming competitions, exhibitors and a chance to really get inside electronic equipment. Plus, there’s the innovative garage competition, you’re not going to want to miss that.
